The State of New Hampshire, Department of Safety,Division of State Police, Forensic Laboratory, has a part-time vacancy for Criminal Evidence Technician, SOC Title 19-4090 MISC LFE-PHY-SOC SC-1. This is a part time position and cannot exceed 29.5 hours per week.
SUMMARY: Coordinates the submittal, storage, tracking and final disposition of items of physical evidence in the forensic laboratory in connection with criminal investigations, and testifies as an expert in criminal trials.
YOUR EXPERIENCE COUNTS - Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience and/or each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of required formal education.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Associate's degree from an accredited institute of higher education with major study in laboratory technology or in the biological sciences, health sciences, chemical sciences, physical sciences, forensic science, computer science, or a related field. Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience.
Experience: Two years of experience in forensic laboratory duties, biological sciences, chemical sciences, computer science, or a related field.
License/Certification: Eligibility for New Hampshire driver’s license.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must be able to pass a comprehensive background check in addition to a fingerprint-based criminal background check and motor vehicle record check.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Receives, inventories and records physical evidence submitted to the Forensic Laboratory and maintains strict legal accountability and custody of physical evidence to ensure its court admissibility.
Records and maintains information onto the LIMS system and the evidence vaults.
Corresponds with all police agencies/troops concerning status of need for examinations and other analytical work.
Testifies as an expert witness in depositions and criminal trials and prepares court exhibits for presentation at trial.
Assists state police and other agencies with crime scene processing to include documentation, collection and preservation of evidence.
