The State of New Hampshire, Department of Education, Division of Learner Support & Bureau of Wellness and Nutrition has a full-time vacancy for a Child Nutrition Program Specialist.
YOUR EXPERIENCE COUNTS: Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience and/or each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of required formal education.
Scope of Work:To research and review United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Child Nutrition Program regulations and policies, to develop and update Nutrition Office policies, technical assistance documentation, informational releases, or work procedures for federally funded Child Nutrition Programs. To evaluate, monitor, research, and provide technical assistance and professional development for the state and federal USDA Child Nutrition Programs. To coordinate the development of compliance review requirements and follow-through activities that meet federal accountability responsibilities. Ensure that participants of all Child Nutrition Programs meet federal and state confidential and civil rights regulations.
Accountabilities:
Coordinates aspects of meal claiming program including collecting, maintaining, and reporting program information; makes appropriate recommendations for revision of program operations and/or policies. Monitors sponsors according to Federally regulated specifications. Writes plans for corrective action of program deficiencies and implements them as needed. Provides program technical assistance, Claim for Reimbursement reconciliation, and advanced training needs. Assists in the monitoring and implementation of federal grants and state contracts as needed.
Ensures adherence to regulations relative to nutrition and standard food service management practices relative to the National School Lunch Program. Confers with administrators, superintendents, principals, teachers, food service personnel, and other persons, to develop training programs that include nutrition curriculum and federal regulatory requirements.
Conducts detailed off-site and on-site administrative child nutrition program reviews based on the federal compliance regulations for USDA Child Nutrition Programs.
Coordinates online application, amendment and claim process for assigned child nutrition programs, including troubleshooting computer claim issues in the MyNHDOE system, processing and releasing batches into the NH First system and entering cash receipts.
Assists with the organization of workshops, field service activities, research-based surveys, study groups, newsletters and institutes to improve personnel performance. Assists in the coordination of Office conferences and attends appropriate in-state and out-of-state training sessions.
Monitor and Review Food Service Management Contracts and RFPs, including Vended Meal Contracts. Ensures adherence to regulations relative to nutrition and standard food service management practices.
Collaborates with inter- and intra-agency professional staff to promote improved nutrition relating to the health of children and adults. Designs and develops materials as needed and provides program resources and information.
Develops program reports and summaries measuring program results and outcomes and collects and analyzes data in order to and make recommendations for necessary changes in operating procedures.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education:Bachelor’s degree from a recognized college or university with major study in business management, administration, nutrition and food service management, adult education, biology or chemistry. Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience.
Experience:Three years’ professional or paraprofessional experience in food service management, business management, nutrition education, or science education, with responsibility for program implementation, direct service delivery, planning or program evaluation. Each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of required formal education.
License/Certification:Valid driver’s license and/or access to transportation for use in statewide travel.
