Position Summary:
The Staff Accountant will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, processing transactions, and assisting in financial reporting and analysis. This role requires a strong understanding of accounting principles, ecommerce financial operations, and inventory accounting. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, highly organized, and proficient with accounting software and ecommerce platforms.
If you are a bookkeeper running your own bookkeeping firm and are looking to grow your client base, this is not the right role for you. We are looking for someone dedicated to joining The Woolly Thistle team as a W-2 employee.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage day-to-day accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger entries.
- Reconcile bank, credit card, and payment processor accounts (e.g., PayPal, Shopify, Amazon Pay, Stripe).
- Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes.
- Prepare financial statements and reports for management review.
- Maintain inventory accounting, ensuring accurate cost tracking and reconciliations.
- Oversee sales tax filings and ensure compliance with multi-state sales tax regulations.
- Manage and process payroll accurately and on time, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
- Identify and implement process improvements to increase efficiency in financial operations.
- Work closely with other departments to ensure seamless financial reporting and operational efficiency.
Qualifications:
- 3+ years of experience in an accounting role, preferably in an ecommerce or retail environment. Skilled in accrual and cost accounting.
- Proficiency in QuickBooks Online and ecommerce platforms like Shopify.
- Strong understanding of GAAP and inventory accounting principles.
- Experience with sales tax compliance and reporting.
- Experience with an inventory management system such as Finale Inventory is preferred.
- Detail-oriented, highly organized, and able to manage multiple priorities.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Schedule & Work Environment:
- Part-time position (approx. 20 hours/week)
- Remote or onsite at our HQ in West Lebanon, NH
- If remote, available to work during East Coast (EST) business hours
Compensation:
$30-$35 per hour, depending on experience
