The City of Keene’s Human Services Division is seeking a compassionate, resourceful, and organized
to provide case management and support to clients needing assistance. This position offers the opportunity to build meaningful relationships with individuals and families, connect people with vital resources, and help clients develop practical plans toward greater stability and self-sufficiency.
The Caseworker is responsible for managing a caseload of welfare clients and providing comprehensive support based on individual needs. The ideal candidate is an excellent communicator who can build trust with clients, navigate complex social-service systems, and advocate effectively on behalf of individuals and families. This is a community-focused role that combines case management, client advocacy, resource coordination, problem-solving, and public service.
What You'll Do:
Manage Client Cases: Screen, interview, assess, and investigate new and ongoing cases; evaluate client needs, develop individualized case plans, conduct home visits as appropriate, and monitor progress.
Connect Clients to Resources: Help clients access and apply for public assistance and other available resources. Provide referrals and maintain current knowledge of local, regional, state, and federal health and social-service programs.
Provide Guidance and Advocacy: Support clients with budgeting, life skills, family planning, and other areas that promote stability. Advocate on behalf of clients and serve as a liaison between clients, service providers, vendors, community resources, and government agencies.
Provide Client and Community Support: Respond to telephone inquiries, greet walk-in clients, schedule appointments, and provide accurate information and resource referrals to clients, service providers, and community members.
Communicate and Collaborate: Maintain effective written and verbal communication with clients, agencies, vendors, community partners, and government organizations. Gather and research information as needed to support case management and client services.
Maintain Professional Knowledge: Stay informed about legislation and policies affecting public assistance, as well as social-service systems, legal and criminal justice resources, medical services, City departments, health codes, and landlord/tenant laws.
Engage with the Community: Participate in community organizations, boards, committees, and activities that support the department, clients, and broader community.
Coordinate Programs and Special Initiatives: Develop and coordinate holiday assistance programs and other special programs or initiatives as assigned and perform additional duties that support the mission of the Human Services Division.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or 2-3 years of related experience and/or training. A valid driver’s license is required. Strong confidentiality and organizational skills are essential for success in this role.
Pay and Benefits
This full-time position offers a competitive pay range of
$30.21- $37.64 per hour and will also receive an attractive benefits package which includes low deductible/low-cost health insurance, low-cost dental insurance, State of NH Group I retirement, and other benefits such as life insurance, disability, tuition assistance, and paid time off. Municipal employees may also qualify for the Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) Program.
