Job Summary:
This position is responsible for assisting where needed for general entry level operations of a paper mill. Including a tissue machine, stock preparation and material control including shipping, receiving and inventory management. Also, helping monitor production processes, and ensuring that all operations are conducted safely and efficiently.
Key responsibilities include working from written and verbal instructions, interpreting production schedules, and monitoring mill activity using computer systems. The Spare will utilize visual, auditory, and olfactory senses to examine equipment, identify potential problems, and ensure proper operation and product quality.
Participation in process improvement efforts is essential, as is the ability to work with outside contractors on special projects. The role also involves assisting with housekeeping duties to maintain the organization and cleanliness of the facility.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support Good Manufacturing Practices to promote workplace safety and hygiene.
- Ensure all operations are conducted safely and maintain a harmonious working environment.
- Help oversee stock preparation and maintain appropriate material levels for production runs.
- Help assist with operations on a tissue machine.
- Roll wrapping operations.
- Storage of finished goods.
- Demonstrates safe driving, knowledge, and use of PIV’s.
- Unloading and loading of material.
- Participate in maintenance and housekeeping duties to uphold facility standards.
- Proactively identify mechanical issues with equipment, including but not limited to belts, gears, bearings, and motors.
- Perform regular inspections and appropriate maintenance on machinery initiating maintenance work orders as needed.
- Execute standard operating procedures associated with the role and support training of others.
- Where applicable support assembly and installation of machinery and equipment according to specifications and layout plans with qualified personnel.
- Move and handle materials, tools, and equipment, often using forklifts or hand trucks.
- Following best practices to maintain logs of activities and repairs, documenting any issues and actions taken.
- Use digital applications to report maintenance, safety and equipment condition or issues.
- Comply with company 6S policy and procedures to keep work areas clean and organized, including machine area, tools and equipment storage.
- Collaborate with the maintenance team to ensure efficient operation of all equipment.
- Work alongside tradespeople and team members to support production goals, quality of goods, facility upkeep, and ensure best-in-class service to our customers.
- Participate in training sessions to learn about material handling, new manufacturing techniques and technologies.
- Stay updated on industry trends and advancements to contribute innovative ideas to the team and achieve annual qualification for assigned job through LMS.
- Support activities throughout the facilities at appropriate levels of experience and qualification including painting, carpentry, plumbing, masonry, demolition, plastering/drywall, concrete, metal work, flooring, roofing, insulation, sheet metal, HVAC and electrical & instrumentation.
- Follow safety protocols and guidelines to maintain a safe working environment, including wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Collaborate with management to identify areas for improvement and modernization within the facility with specific focus on the paper machine and adjacent processes.
- Other tasks as assigned.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED
- 1-year experience in paper manufacturing or similar environment or demonstrated competency in executing requirements of the position.
- Complete assigned annual training at a satisfactory level including competency, skills, and proficiency assessment.
- Achieve annual associated job and safety qualification courses (electrical, confined entry, fall protection, PIV, etc.) as provided in LMS.
- Proficiency in documenting maintenance activities, repairs, and inspections in clear, concise language.
- Ability to write clear notes about equipment issues, specifications or maintenance performed for record-keeping.
- Ability to read and understand material safety data sheets, technical documents, drawings, schematics, safety manuals, and equipment specifications.
- Skilled in interpreting written instructions and work orders to complete tasks accurately.
- Ability to read and follow safety guidelines and procedures to maintain a safe work environment.
- Skilled in communicating effectively with team members and supervisors through written correspondence, such as emails or digital applications.
- Ability to perform basic calculations, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, for tasks such as measuring materials or estimating costs.
- Competence in using measurement tools (e.g., tape measures, calipers) and understanding units of measurement for accurate work.
- Ability to work with ratios, percentages, and simple formulas relevant to production processes or material calculations.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Physical Requirements:
- Bending and Stooping: Ability to bend and stoop frequently to access and repair various components of powered industrial vehicles.
- Lifting: Capability to lift and carry heavy objects, tools, and equipment, often weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Use of Tools: Proficiency in using hand and power tools for maintenance and repair tasks.
- Manual Dexterity: Good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity to handle parts and tools effectively.
- Standing and Walking: Ability to stand and walk for extended periods during the work shift.
- Certification: Must meet the certification requirements to operate and drive powered industrial vehicles safely and efficiently.
Work conditions:
This will require working in a noisy environment where you may be exposed to hazardous chemicals, extreme temperatures, dust, slippery conditions, and heavy machinery traffic. It will require lots of walking and climbing stairs.

Pay: $22.51 - $26.10 per hour
