The Division of Arts and Sciences is inviting adjunct faculty members committed to teaching undergraduate English courses concentrating on writing and literature. The courses are part of Rivier University’s Core Curriculum and are focused on writing expositions and arguments, and literature as it relates to art and humanity. Candidates will begin teaching in the Fall 2026 semester.
Direction and Supervision are provided by the Program Director, General Education/Core Curriculum.
Duties and Responsibilities
To create an engaging academic learning environment, means of assessment of learning, and the development of readers and writers for the undergraduate student experience.
- Provide face-to-face and/or online course content in one or more areas of the core curriculum
- Provide quality instruction, direction, and coaching of students throughout their course experience
- Provide and support processes and procedures that enhance timely and constructive feedback and assessment for tracking of student progresson rubrics
- Respect and support for the mission of Rivier University and the Division
Qualifications
- PhD, EdD, MA, MAT or degree in English or related field from an accredited college or university
- Enthusiasm for teaching students of all levels, abilities, and backgrounds and a commitment to teaching excellence.
- Experience teaching with a learning management system (e.g., Canvas, Blackboard, etc.).
- Prior work or teaching experience in the field of English or Literacy is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Ability
- Effective oral and written communication
- Professional collaboration with faculty, students and the community
- Plan, organize, prioritize and complete designated tasks related to teaching in the Core Curriculum
- Work with other faculty and teach courses independently
- Maintain privacy and confidentiality; and
- Demonstrate computer literacy in software and internet applications
