Purpose
The Grounds & Facilities Specialist is responsible for the hands-on maintenance and care of park grounds, landscaping, and facilities to ensure a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for guests and staff. This role performs a variety of maintenance, landscaping, and operational tasks across the park and works closely with leadership and other departments to maintain the high standards of both Santa’s Village and the Lantern Resort & Campground.
Functions and Responsibilities
Facilities & Grounds Management
- Maintain cleanliness, safety, and overall upkeep across all park areas including restrooms, common areas, attractions, and operational spaces
- Perform routine and preventative maintenance; respond promptly to maintenance requests and troubleshoot basic electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems
- Conduct regular inspections of park facilities, equipment, and systems to identify issues and ensure safe, reliable operation
- Assist with minor repairs and general maintenance tasks throughout the park
- Maintain landscaped areas including plant care, watering, planting, greenhouse support, and composting operations
- Operate and maintain landscaping and maintenance equipment such as mowers and weed whackers
- Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in a safe, clean, and orderly condition
- Support special events and operational needs including set-up and breakdown
- Assist with seasonal park preparation and other operational needs as assigned
- Assist with care and upkeep of park animals, including reindeer
Team Leadership
- Work collaboratively with maintenance, landscaping, and operations teams
- Support, guide, and help supervise seasonal team members
- Foster a positive, safe, and team-oriented work environment
Administrative Duties
- Monitor supply levels and assist with inventory management
- Track maintenance tasks and completed work
- Identify and report safety hazards or maintenance concerns
Guest Experience
- Interact with guests in a friendly, courteous, and helpful manner
- Provide assistance and support a welcoming, family-style atmosphere
- Maintain a positive attitude and professional demeanor
Knowledge and Skills
- Basic knowledge of landscaping practices, plant care, and general maintenance techniques.
- Ability to operate landscaping and maintenance equipment safely.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Positive attitude and commitment to guest service.
Extent of Public Contact
The Grounds & Facilities Specialist will greet guests, graciously provide assistance, and answer their questions to make their visit enjoyable.
Physical Demands
This position requires frequent reaching, stretching, stooping, and climbing up and down stairs. Much of the workday consists of standing and walking. Often, this person will be required to lift up to 75 pounds.
This person must have the following physical capabilities to ensure guest safety throughout the park:
Quick Response Time: Reacts swiftly in the event of an emergency or to help guests or employees
Manual Labor: Operates lawn mowers, weed whackers, heavy equipment, and other outdoor equipment
Physical Stamina: Stands for long periods, walks, and sometimes lifts or moves objects
Working Conditions and Environment
This position requires working weekends and holidays based on operational needs. Position is outdoors.
This position may work in any of the following extreme weather situations:
- Rain and Stormy Weather
- This position may have to work in light rain or deal with temporary bursts of inclement weather like thunderstorms or heavy rain.
- Windy Conditions In areas with frequent winds, this position may need to monitor weather conditions to ensure safety of guests and employees
- Winter – Cold Conditions
- This position may be required to work in low temperatures, possibly with snow or ice.
- Will need to dress warmly, including wearing layers, gloves, hats, and appropriate outerwear.
- Depending on the location, there may be wind chill factors or occasional snow, which could impact visibility and comfort.
Job Requirements
- 2-4 years of experience in grounds maintenance, landscaping, facilities maintenance, or a related field
- High school diploma or GED required
- Valid Driver’s License required
- Successful completion of a DOT physical required
- Experience operating landscaping and maintenance equipment safely
- Vocational training in landscaping, horticulture, or related field preferred
