Position Overview
Meeting House Montessori School is seeking a caring and dependable Afternoon Teacher to support our preschool and/or elementary-aged students during the afternoon program. The ideal candidate will provide a calm, engaging, and nurturing environment that extends the Montessori experience beyond the morning hours. This role involves facilitating activities, outdoor play, and daily transitions while maintaining a consistent and positive classroom atmosphere.
Responsibilities
- Supervise and engage preschool and elementary students during the afternoon work period, outdoor play, and aftercare.
- Encourage kindness, cooperation, and respect among students of mixed ages.
- Oversee snack time, rest periods (for younger children), and transitions throughout the afternoon.
- Maintain an orderly, inviting, and safe classroom environment.
- Collaborate and communicate effectively with lead teachers and administrators regarding student needs and routines.
- Assist with end-of-day classroom organization and closing procedures.
Qualifications
- Experience working with children ages 3–12, preferably in a Montessori or similar educational setting.
- Understanding of or interest in Montessori principles and methods.
- Warm, patient, and dependable with strong communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with a small team of educators.
- CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
- Must meet state requirements for working in a licensed school environment.
Hours
Monday–Friday, approximately 1:00 p.m.–5:30 p.m.
(Some flexibility may be required for school events or professional development.)
Compensation
Competitive hourly rate based on education and experience.
