For a portion of the year (spring/summer), the department operates on a 9/80 work schedule (a two-workweek schedule of eight 9-hour days, one 8-hour day, and one day off)

Mechanical Engineer Job Summary:
The Mechanical Engineer will implement product line enhancements while supporting our customers, sales, and operations teams. Work will include producing sales drawings, manufacturing documentation, technical documents, and work tickets to expedite work through our manufacturing facility. This role requires an understanding of sound mechanical design principles and the ability to leverage design for manufacturability techniques. The position requires a self-driven individual who works effectively both independently and within a team, with strong mechanical aptitude and a passion for solving abstract technical problems.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Understanding of manufacturing processes such as machining, welding, and mechanical assembly.
- Proficiency in interpretation and application of ANSI geometric tolerancing and dimensioning (GD&T) including ASME Y14.5M to convey design intent to production.
- Ability to read, interpret, and speak to information contained in technical documentation such as specifications, drawings, and contracts.
- Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office tools such as Teams, Word, Excel, Outlook, and SharePoint.
- Possesses good communication and organizational skills to manage workloads, prioritize deadlines, and work within a team.
- Understanding properties of materials and how they affect good mechanical design.
- Possesses a strong mechanical aptitude and utilizes root cause analysis in troubleshooting complex technical problems.
- Possesses understanding of and able to apply engineering principals such as torque, bending moments, torsional stresses, in engineering analysis problems.
Responsibilities:
- Participate in cross functional teams of engineers focused on creation of innovative solutions to industry problems.
- Generate innovative design solutions in 3D models and generate detailed drawings with bills of materials to convey design intent to production.
- Analyze and optimize designs with available CFD and FEA tools.
- Select materials to meet environmental, mechanical, and specification requirements.
- Maximize product quality while meeting cost and manufacturability goals.
- Research and implement leading-edge technologies, products, scientific advancements, and trends in designs.
- Create and manage detailed project schedules that identify project milestones, critical paths, and resource allocations.
- Identify and escalate project issues and risks to management.
- Coordinate pre-production runs and project release activities to ensure smooth project transitions into production.
- Implement Design for Manufacturability (DFM) principles.
- Minimize parts in inventory
- Standardize parts and raw materials
- Create modular assemblies
- Redesign for ease of assembly and joining
- Minimize reorientation (manual interaction) of parts during assembly and machining
- Streamline number of production operations and processes
- Critique and redefine acceptable finishes of manufactured goods to facilitate production
Qualifications:
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent technical discipline required.
- Experience in Autodesk inventor and/or Solidworks.
- Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
- Strong organizational skills.
