Shipping Manager
Job Summary:
The primary responsibility of the position is to ensure that all outgoing products and materials, inbound and outbound, are transported in the most effective and economically efficient manner..
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Negotiating rates and coordinating freight with various carriers
- Communicate with internal customers such as sales staff, managers, and senior staff troubleshooting matters regarding freight, delivery schedules or other logistics related issues
- Communicate with external customers such as carriers, ports, and shipping agents to assist in price negotiations, gather information and troubleshoot logistics issues
- Provide analysis on logistics
- Maintain competitive information on freights.
- Development and management of Performance Metrics
- Provides leadership through example, effective communication, following all policies, and a positive attitude
- Promote and maintain a clean, safe, and healthy working environment
- Motivates employees to establish good morale, increased efficiency, general pride in workmanship and increased quality
- Maintain inventories of assorted shop supplies, including but not limited to; safety supplies, saw blades, cardboard, banding, wood, marking ink, paper, and other necessary supplies for day to day operations of Packing, Aging and Re-cut.
- Assist the Director, Manufacturing & Supply Chain in day to day operation of the Fabrication, Shipping & Packing Departments
- Ensure employees follow all work instructions and other established procedures, policies and standards including Safety, Quality and ISO.
- Optimize work flow and efficiencies of resources including workforce to insure maximum capacity is attained
- Control working hours, Overtime hours and Vacation hours to minimize any impact on day to day operations
- Evaluate and report on employees’ performance as required
- Perform disciplinary action as needed with employees
- Interact with Human Resources to resolve employee issues and needs
- Focus on increased safety, encourage all employees to think safety and work safely
- Focus on meeting all housekeeping standards
- Focus on increased quality, encourage all employees to work efficiently
- Other projects and/or duties as assigned
Skills:
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Comprehensive understanding of manufacturing and supply chain
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Manufacturing ERP experience required
- Infor Syteline ERP experience preferred
Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma
- At least five years of Manufacturing, Supply Chain, or Logistics experience
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods sitting and working on a computer
- Must be capable of lifting 25-50 lbs. at times
